Grav
So, ran across this the other day... sort of changed by perspective on CMS.... as you can see I do love media wiki as a web management system, its not the most pretty but boy is it really easy and nice to write in . :-)
With Grav it really does give a different point of view than say WordPress or Joomla.
Grav is a open-source flat-file content management system (CMS) designed for speed, flexibility, and ease of use. Unlike traditional CMS platforms that rely on databases, Grav stores content in simple markdown files, offering several advantages in terms of performance, portability, and version control. Grav is engineered to provide a streamlined experience for both developers and content creators. Its architecture focuses on simplicity and extensibility, allowing users to build a wide range of websites, from simple blogs to complex corporate sites.
Core Features and Functionality
Grav boasts a API and a Package Manager, making it flexible and adaptable to diverse project requirements. The Grav Admin plugin provides a user-friendly interface that simplifies configuration and content creation. The dashboard offers a quick overview of the site's status, while advanced forms facilitate easy modification of Grav's flexible configuration settings. Content editing is streamlined with Grav's robust markdown editor, and the built-in Package Manager enables one-click installation of plugins and themes.
Open Source Nature and Licensing
Grav is an open-source project hosted on GitHub, reflecting its commitment to transparency, collaboration, and community-driven development. It originated from Trilby Media and is supported by a community of developers and users who contribute their expertise through GitHub, forums, and Discord. Grav is licensed under the MIT License, a permissive free software license that grants users the freedom to use, modify, and distribute the software. This licensing ensures that Grav remains accessible and adaptable for a wide range of projects, fostering innovation and collaboration within its ecosystem. Grav is also part of the Open Collective, which allows the community to support the project through sponsorships and contributions, ensuring its continued development and maintenance.
Advanced Capabilities and Extensibility
Grav has many features and tools that help developers to create sophisticated websites with ease. Users can employ their preferred Markdown editor to create content online or offline. The built-in Package Manager simplifies finding, installing, and updating extensions and themes. Grav employs intelligent content caching to deliver optimal performance, irrespective of hosting environments. The platform supports unlimited taxonomies, such as tags, categories, and authors, for effective content filtering and management. Its flat-file nature enables defining custom fields for any page, including modular content. Grav also features a straightforward mechanism for presenting sites in multiple languages.
Additional Advantages
The flat-file structure of Grav simplifies data backup and restoration, making it easy to migrate between hosts or servers. Dynamic image manipulation capabilities allow resizing, cropping, and applying effects to images, with automatic caching. Theme inheritance enables users to modify specific elements without starting from scratch, simplifying updates. Grav's versatility allows it to power a variety of websites, from simple blogs to complex designs, thanks to its flexible content structure and Twig templating engine.
